#!F-adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--18*
#!N
#!CDarkGreen #!N  #!Rall639 Data Section #!N #!EC #!N #!N The data
section is used for Array data when either an offset in
the current file or in a separate file is specified in
the Array Object definition. All other Objects, including Array Objects whose
definitions use the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* 'data follows' #!EF specification, are self-contained; their
definitions include all necessary information. These Objects do not use a
data section. #!N #!N The Data Explorer file format is flexible
enough to describe many existing data formats without having to reformat
the data. It allows you to specify byte order, which index
varies fastest, whether the data type is floating point or byte,
and whether the file format is binary or ASCII. #!N #!N
For data that is not in a format accepted by the
Data Explorer native file format, you can either reformat the data
so it is acceptable, or import the data using a general
importer specification (see #!Lgai,dxall110 h General Array Importer #!EL in IBM Visualization Data Explorer QuickStart Guide).
#!N #!N The data section consists of a set of data
items specified as text or binary by the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* data #!EF
clauses in the various Array Object definitions. Text and binary can
be mixed in the same data section, because the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* data
#!EF clauses specify portions of the data section by byte offsets.
Binary representations can be in most-significant-byte-first (  #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*   msb #!EF )
or least-significant-byte-first (  #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*   lsb #!EF ) format, as specified by
the relevant #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* data #!EF or #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* 'data mode' #!EF clause.
Binary floating-point numbers currently must be in IEEE format. #!N #!N
If a Data Explorer file does not begin with a valid
header (at least an #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* end #!EF clause), it is assumed
not to have a header section. #!N #!N #!N  #!F-adobe-times-medium-i-normal--18*   Next
